What a Harry Potter’s fans should do while in London? Well, the experience of entering the real magical world is supposed to be on the top list of your itinerary. A Harry Potter’s freak must know that the world doesn’t only exist in the book but also super real in the muggle world. To help you deciding where to go or what to do first, below is the list of places to lead you and what you need to prepare is only making sure that your wand is ready and your cloak is freshly washed because you would never know, perhaps you will meet Prof. McGonagall in Diagon Alley and she’ll ask you to do the transfiguration spell.
- Charing Cross Road
Remember when the first time Harry and Hagrid meet in Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone? After that, Hagrid took Harry to Charing Cross Road. It is a muggle street where The Leaky Cauldron pub is located. It is the very first experience of Harry in magical world, so it is obvious to start your journey in Harry Potter realm and magical world, it is the first place a Harry Potter fans should go in London. Though probably you will not find the pub but at least there are a lot of second-hand book stores you could visit and of course the atmosphere is purely magical.
- The Leaky Cauldron Pub and Inn
Well, finding the the Leaky Cauldron Pub and Inn in muggle world is a bit tricky because it is located in Leadenhall Market and it is actually an optician store and not a pub or inn. Leadenhall Market is also used as Diagon Alley location in the movie so this market is ‘must’ on the visit list.
- The Gringotts Wizarding Bank
You are already in magical world and in Diagon Alley, the next thing you need is money. So, the next stop you should visit is the Gringotts Wizarding Bank. In the movie, the bank location is taken place in Australia House in Central London. Quite easy to find since it is the landmark of the street.
Is your money save in your pocket but you are a little thirsty? Before shopping, perhaps enjoying a glass of Butterbeer is a great idea. However, in real world, instead of going to Three Broomsticks, for a glass of this non-alcoholic beverage you should go to The Backlot Cafe in Warner Bros Studio Tour London.
- Platform 9 ¾
Now, all of your magical stuff saved in your trunk it is the time for you to go to Hogwarts. The only transportation available is Hogwarts Express and to reach it you should go to King Cross Station. And then you go to the west side of the station and start looking for the platform 9 ¾ where you will find a trolley waiting for you which will bring you to the whatever magical realm just behind the wall.
Those are the top five places a Harry Potter fans should go in London but if you have more time to explore there are some more places that are also highly recommended to visit like Piccadilly Circus where Harry, Hermione and Ron were almost being hit by a London bus after fleeing from Will and Fleur’s wedding in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Reptile House in London’s Zoo to chat with a boa like what Harry did in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Millennium Bridge which once was destroyed by death eater in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and for the real experience of Hogwarts’s students you could go to Christ Church for Hogwarts Great Hall.
